This is a news and repository magazine for the Bilingual Section Team, students and teachers I.E.S.O. TOMÁS BRETÓN, VILLAMAYOR DE LA ARMUÑA, SALAMANCA.
3rd Term reading for 4th ESO Bilingual students. Here are some reviews:
"In my opinion, Adrian Mole is quite a good book because the story of the life of the main character, that is Adrian Mole. reflects the lifestyle during the 60s in England, the society, the economical and political situation. It is a diary where Adrian, aged 14, writes about his awful lot of problems and it is really fun to read. That is why I would recommend it to everybody above fourteen years old."

"I liked the book. But, to be honest, it is a bit difficult to read because it is a diary so the sentences are really short and sometimes you don’t have all the information that you would like to have ( it is adapted from the original book). The actions happen really fast and suddenly the plot jumps from one thing to another. I would recommend it to people of my age. " I.A.A
People’s eating habits have become different due to the change of the age. The lifestyle which has become inactive causes the increase of many diseases and obesity. Especially during the pandemic period, students have become less active and consumed more junk food than usual. On the other hand, the fact that students spend long hours in the school environment pushes them to have an unhealthy nutrition. As a result, many students have diseases such as uncontrolled weight gain, obesity and diabetes.
In this Project, we aim to provide students with healthy nutrition, regular exercises, and the habit of adequate water consumption. In order to find answers to our questions such as how nutrition is regulated in changing life conditions, what the basic nutritional requirements are, what kind of changes can be made in our lifestyle, what is the place of adequate water consumption in human health, what are the effects of healthy eating and sports habits on human psychology and how they can contribute our living standards, we will do activities with our students and their families. Thus, Our students will have information about nutritious food and sports activities for a quality and healthy life andwill be able to adapt new age in the best and healthy way with activities we’ll do.
Human resources and our tasks:
1ESO B students have carried out this project from March to May. Alberto Marcos, the PE teacher, and Teo Domínguez, from the English department, have been coordinating the project, as well as with other European schools from Turkey, Romania and Poland.
The project was divided into two topics: food and sports. The students had to prepare healthy breakfast, a healthy recipe, a Turkish recipe or they also had to calculate their daily calories. As for sports, they had to do some training sessions at school, some exercise at home and they went on a walking tour.
They learned to create their own videos, they worked on Canva, Bitmoji and other IT tools.
Here is a summary of the activities by means of two interactive books.
After researching on recycling processes, renewable energies and sustainability, our bilingual students of 3ESO BC elaborated these illustrative and colourful leaflets.

Reviews on the reader Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde, by R.L. Stevensons
On the second term, 4B Bilingüal students read an adapted version of 'Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde'. Here are two reviews:
"It is a novel with two main characters, but in the end, you discover that they are the same person. One day, a man has a problem with himself because he has two sides - a good one and a bad one. He decides to separate them and tries some chemicals. Eventually, one of them works, and he can become Dr Jekyll or Mr. Hyde. Dr Jekyll is a kind man who likes spending time with his friends. He is also taller and smarter than Mr.Hyde. However, Mr. Hyde has an evil appearance and does dreadful things, such as committing crimes. Other characters in the story include Mr. Utterson, Doctor Lanyon, and Poole, who help to discover this mystery. In the end, Mr. Utterson understands the story, and the bad side of the man (Mr. Hyde) predominates. So, for the rest of his life, the doctorshould be Mr. Hyde instead of Dr Jekyll.
My favorite part of the story is when Mr. Utterson is reading the letter from Dr Lanyon explaining the transformation of the man. I woulddefinitely recommend this book."_ By A. M.M.
"The book tells the story of a man who wanted to have two different personalities - a good one and a bad one - and ended up doing terrible things when he turned into his bad side. Finally, heprefers toremainin his real body, but his bad side constantly tried to be stronger, making him feel unwell and isolated.
In my opinion, the book is good. However, it's not the type of book I would usually choose to read on my own, as I prefer other genres. Nevertheless, I would recommend it to younger readers, as they may find it more enjoyable." _ By I.A.A.

eTwinning project onEARTH DAY
The celebration of "EARTH DAY" is an opportunity to stop and reflect on the importance that planet Earth has for each of us. Starting from the students' results of their ecological footprint (by means of the carbon footprint calculator tool), they reflected and expressed their apprecition of the various subystems that make up planet Earth (biosphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere and atmosphere).
The students from 2A and 2B placed two dry trees which stayed for some days at the school hall. They also built some paper leaves with a sentence showing the importance that each of the subsystems had for them. Finally, they dressed the dry trees up with their colourful paper leaves.
Here are the students' ideas on the topic.
"My students were really impressed when they heard
about the number of planets Earth we would need, 4.1, if everybody
produced the same carbon footprint as we do, 7.5t. That is a lot of
damage to the world. This means that we are consuming
and wasting resources at a rate that exceeds what the Earth can sustainably
provide. This is a reflection of our unsustainable way of life and a desperate
need to find a solution.
Our planet's health and well-being will be
severely compromised if
we continue consuming, wasting and contaminating as we are doing at the moment.
We must use more renewable energy and follow the rule of the three Rs: Recycle,
Reuse and Reduce. If do not all collaborate now, future generations will not
enjoy a proper life."
