INTERNATIONAL PROJECT ON CHRISTMAS CARDS

1ESO and 2ESO students have joined a project with other European schools to send each other Christmas cards. There have been schools from Turkey, Poland and also the Canary Islands. 1ESO students sent traditional Christmas cards to their European friends and 2ESO students used Genially as the resource to communicatie with a Turkish school.

Here is a selection of pictures:

These are some of their opinions:

"My opinion of Christmas Cards from Tenerife is wonderful. The text on the cards is very special and so funny. The cards are very decorated and the text doesn't have many mistakes. You can tell other people your Christmas traditions"

"I like the activity because it's an original and interesting idea".

"The Christmas Card project was an amazing and unique activity. It was actually really nice to get to talk to other people and decorating the cards was amazing. It was so much fun!".

"I think it is a good project. You can improve your English and you have a great time speaking to different people around the world".

Here are some pictures from some 2ESO ONLINE CARDS:

These are some of their opinions:

"It was interesting to know more about students on other countries. The activity was fun. I liked to receive a Christmas card from the Turkish student."

"It was a very good activity becuase we could learn lots of traditions of other countries and we met new people and the other teens can lear about our Christmas celebrations."

It is another way of learning English and having fun too. I am happy with it because I have learnt a lot about other cultures and countries and I have made new friends.

THANKSGIVING DAY

This is the link to the Padlet we created on the project 'THANKSGIVING festivity'. Two schools: IES GSR and IESO Tomás Bretón (English & Music departments), and three groups of students from 2º ESO Bil participated. They wrote thank-you notes, decorated turkey shapes and wrote  the lines of the beautiful poem 'Remember'  by Joe Harjo on them. This poem was also recorded by the students at IESO Tomás Bretón in their music classroom. Besides, they  recited some poems and presented some typical Thanksgiving food. (November 2022)

TOMÁS BRETÓN, MUSICIAN, COMPOSER AND CONDUCTOR.

CELEBRATING THE 1ST CENTENARY OF HIS DEATH.

Tomás Bretón was born in Salamanca on 29th December, 1850. He completed his musical studies at the School of Fine Arts in his hometown, where he earned his living playing in small provincial orchestras, theaters and churches. At age 16, he moved to Madrid, where he played in orchestras in zarzuela theaters. He also began his studies at the Royal Conservatory. In 1872, Bretón received the first prize for composition at the Conservatory. In 1882 he received a grant from the Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando which enabled him to study in Rome, Milan, Vienna and Paris between 1881 and 1884. There, he  worked on more ambitious works, such as the oratorio El Apocalipsis and the opera Los amantes de Teruel and La verbena de la paloma. Bretón was also very active as a conductor, first in the Unión Artístico Musical (1878–81), and later in Madrid Concert Society. In 1901, he became director of the Conservatory of Madrid, a position he held until his retirement in 1921, struggling to modernize teaching at the institution and broaden its international orientation. He died in Madrid on 2nd December , 1923.
